The results of 174 applicants who took the 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) have been annulled in their entirety.
The West African Examination Council (WAEC) revealed this in its interim WASSCE results for 2021.
The results were canceled, according to the Council, because of “various examination malpractices such as introducing foreign materials into the test hall, tearing off pieces of question sheets, and colluding.”
The results of 3,667 candidates have also been delayed until the completion of investigations into various incidences of examination misconduct discovered during and after the exam.
Based on the outcome of the investigations, withheld results may be cancelled or revealed.
Candidates in Grades A1 to C6 in Integrated Science and Social Studies performed better in 2021 than in 2020, according to WAEC.
English Language and Mathematics (Core), on the other hand, saw a drop in performance.
According to a recent revelation by Africa Education Watch, 55 percent of WASSCE papers were leaked between 10 and 1 hour before the exam.
Extracts of questions for the elective Mathematics 2 paper and Section ‘A’ of English Language 2 were disseminated on social media channels prior to the examination, according to the council.
However, it stated that the circulation was limited.
