Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, is asking both returning and newly accepted students to get vaccinated against COVID-19 before coming to campus to begin the academic year.
Prof. Appiah Amfo, who spoke at the School of Graduate Studies’ graduation ceremony over the weekend, said the goal is to assist lower the rate of virus distribution and illness on campus.

She said the institution has taken several steps to prevent an outbreak of the disease on campus, including making immunizations available to the university community.

“With the commencement of the Omicron variant, measures to ensure compliance with protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 will continue. COVID-19 immunization is still going on at the University Hospital and a few mobile stations around campus. As we begin the new academic year, we encourage all students, university personnel, and the general public to get vaccinated before returning to their respective campuses, so that we can reduce the risk of huge outbreaks that could further disrupt the academic calendar. Faculty and staff who have not yet been vaccinated are likewise encouraged to do so, according to her.

Ghana has given out nearly 9 million doses of the five COVID-19 vaccinations it has received so far.
Only 2.9 million people have been vaccinated, despite the fact that 6.6 million people have gotten at least one dose of the vaccine.
The government hopes to increase COVID-19 vaccination by making vaccinations more accessible in order to reach its goal of fully vaccinating 20 million people in the coming months.
