3 ILLEGAL MINERS ARRESTED ALONG OFFIN AND SUBIN RIVERS

In an effort to clamp down on illegal mining in its enclave, the Upper Denkyira West District Security Council in the Central Region has arrested three illegal miners along the Offin and Subin Rivers.

The Council destroyed Changfang and water pumping machines, along with other mining equipment retrieved from the suspects to discourage other illegal miners from returning to site.

Mr. Richmond Koduah, the District Chief Executive for Upper Denkyira West, who led the operation said in an interview with the media that Government is committed to ending the menace of illegal mining in the country. He added that the Assembly will therefore go all out to help the Government succeed in its quest.

He narrated that in their rounds, they chanced upon a group of young men on the Offin and Subin Rivers engaging in illegal mining activities attempted to arrest them. Some fled, but they were able to arrest three of them, and has handed them over to the authorities for prosecution.

Mr. Koduah warned individuals and groups in the illegal mining business to stop the harmful activities saying anyone caught would not be spared. He also made a passionate appeal for resources from the Government to support the District with the fight against illegal mining.
