A squad of police officers from the Accra Regional Police Command shot and killed three people, including a Cameroonian national, during an attempt to rob a businessman at Opeibea, near Accra’s Kotoka International Airport.

Akika Christian-Robert, a Cameroonian, has been recognized, while Alhassan and Alhaji, two additional suspects, have only been named as Alhassan and Alhaji.

Abdul Latif, 47, and Prosper Kokou, 27, were also arrested as part of the investigation and are suspected of being involved in the attempted heist.

Alhassan is reported to be the hitman hired by a Kumasi-based businessman known only as Hakeem to carry out murder operations, while Alhaji is said to track down victims and report them to the group.

Following information of a gang conspiracy to rob a businessman at a bank in Opeibea, the police officers set up an ambush.

The gang is suspected of being responsible for a number of robberies, including an attack on a forex bureau operator who was robbed of GH3 million in December 2020, as well as a number of murder cases that have been investigated by the police since that year. They’ve been on the police’s wanted list since then.

When the police sought to apprehend the suspects, Christian-Robert, a Cameroonian, armed with a Taurus Pistol, attempted to shoot the policemen, but he was shot down before he could discharge his weapon.

During the shooting at the police officers, Alhassan and Alhaji attempted to flee. The three were shot and killed as a result of the police’s retaliation.

Over the last year, the individuals have been linked to robberies and killings in Accra and Kumasi. Mr. Ofori reassured the people that the police are committed to eliminating robberies from the country’s streets, neighborhoods, and roads.
