The Ghana Statistical Service will from 27th June,2021, embark on Population and Housing Census in the Country, and to that the exercise takes off smoothly, the Government Statistician have been going round engaging the various Regional Census Implementation Committees.
As part of the preparation for a smooth take off in the Western Region, the Government Statistician on Tuesday, 13th April, 2021 met with the Regional Census Implementation Committee and the Regional Minister at the offices of Western Regional Coordinating Council in Sekondi.
Addressing the Regional Census Implementation Committee, the Government Statistician, Professor Samuel Kobina Annim made it clear that accuracy of data is going to be the hall mark of this years population and housing census.
He therefore urged the numerators to help the statistical service to ensure that respondents do the right thing. He indicated that the reason why the statistical service is going digital in this years census is to have an effective control of the census data. He again allayed the fears of respondents on the issue of confidentiality and assured that the service will strictly adhere to a confidential exercise ensuring that no data will go out as stipulated in the Statistical Service act 2019, act 1003, stressing that there will be no room for arm chair research in this exercise.
Professor Annim also expressed concern with scammers telling prospective applicants to pay one hundred and fifty and two hundred and fifty Ghana Cedis with the promise of getting them a role to play in the census activity.
He stated that, that perception was a complete erroneous and therefore tasked the regional census implementation committee to send the message out.
