Minister of Roads and Highways Promises to Repair Kintampo Buipe -Tamale route: Orders Closure of Toll Booths

News

It was announced today that the toll booth at Buipe would be closed on Wednesday, September 15 due to a ministerial directive.

To allow contractors to repair the damaged portions of the Kintampo Buipe-Tamale route, the road will be closed for a period of time.

An articulator truck and a bus driving from opposing directions blocked a stretch of the Kintampo-Buipe-Tamale Highway two weeks ago, leaving little room for other cars to drive freely.

On this stretch of highway, potholes have caused the vehicles to lock up. Approximately two kilometers on either side of the road were closed as a result of the event.

Four weeks have been allocated to QCMI Construction Limited by the government to repair the damaged sections of road.

Toll booths were ordered shuttered by Wednesday morning by the Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr. Amoako-Attah, who was evaluating ongoing construction.

He said that this was done to provide the contractor ample room to work and to safeguard the toll collectors.

They must stop collecting tolls within the next four weeks because contractors are working near the toll booths. Not even the collectors will be able to use it safely, and we must not construct anything that will impede the contractors’ ability to work and complete their projects.

Since both ends of toll booths will be closed starting Wednesday morning, I’m giving the Chief Director urgent instructions.”

To make matters worse, he stated that contractors had been sent to Savannah to fix the roads that have been swept away by the severe rains over the last year.

Plentiful rains have washed away several roads in the Savanna Region. The Busunu-Daboya route was the most damaged.

On the Busunu Daboya road, Mr. Amoako-Attah said contractors had begun work and are anticipated to be finished within weeks.
