The assault of two police officers at Luhuor, a village near Sege in the Ada West District, has resulted in the arraignment of 29 suspects.

When the police officers arrived at Electrohem Ghana Limited in Luhuor to answer to a distress call, they were allegedly attacked by members of the community.
A riot control weapon and a package of ammunition were also taken by the residents.

“For more than three hours, several of the accused held the police officers hostage and abused them.” The Riot Control Weapon was later seized, and a Toyota car belonging to the Police Service was destroyed,” according to a portion of a statement from the Police Service.

During the attack, the police officers requested reinforcements.
The inhabitants were enraged by the call and set fire to car tyres at the community’s gate to prevent the reinforced police squad from entering.

Following the event, the Ada Divisional Police Command launched an operation in Luhuor on Friday, October 22nd, 2021, with the goal of apprehending 36 individuals.
“36 suspects were arrested and screened during the operation, and 29 were sent to court for trial yesterday.”

The weapon and the box of cartridges have been recovered, according to the statement.
“The Police Administration strongly opposes the criminal activity, and we urge the public to refrain from harming any individual or group, particularly Law Enforcement Agents, or face arrest and prosecution.”

This event is the latest in a string of attacks on police personnel across the country.
Bright Berchie, a 30-year-old man believed to be an aide to Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah, the Head Pastor of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International Accra, was recently arrested after he was seen brandishing a weapon and threatening police officers and other people in a widely circulated video.
