The Adum Banso Unit Committee in the Mpohor District has detained six young people from Effiakuma in the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality in the Western Region for attempting to sell a “stolen” taxi to an unsuspecting customer in the area.

Yaw Bernard, a government appointee at the Mpohor District Assembly, described the circumstances that led to the boys’ detention on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, as follows: “The six teenagers brought the car from Sekondi-Takoradi through Manso to apparently sell it to someone.”

However, when they failed to persuade the individual they sought to sell the taxi that it was actually theirs, he got suspicious.

“According to the man, when the teenagers, who are believed to be between the ages of 16 and 19, arrived in the Taxi Renault, the number plate had been taken.

“When he requested for supporting documents, they couldn’t present any. When the man saw there were no car keys and the ignition had been tampered with, he grew suspicious, according to him. As a result, he promptly notified me and a few other young males nearby,” Yaw Bernard explained.

He went on to say that when the kids were pressed further, they couldn’t come up with a plausible story.

“As a result, I told one Inspector Baah at BOPP about the kids. He had come to collect them. But before that, I made sure no one touched them,” he claimed on Connect FM.

“I called Inspector Baah this morning, and he informed me that the taxi’s owner had been located. In fact, it was discovered that the taxi was in motion and was parked near Fijai’s May Spot. However, the driver noticed it was gone and filed a report.”

The teenagers are currently being readied to be moved from the Mpohor Police Station to the Takoradi Central Police Station, according to Yaw Bernard.
