Bawku: Pregnant woman killed for refusing to provide suspects directions.

News

Concerned Women of Bawku have formed a group to demand justice for a pregnant woman who was allegedly murdered by unknown men in Bawku on Tuesday.

The deceased, whose name has been given as Rukaya Awudu, is said to have been murdered on Tuesday afternoon when she refused to give her alleged killers directions to a certain David’s house.

Poanab Elizabeth Azonko, the group’s leader, spoke to the media on Wednesday evening, describing the incident as “barbaric” and demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of two people they claim murdered Rukaya.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s National Peace Council (NPC) has encouraged the contending sides in the Bawku conflict to settle their disagreements via negotiation.

According to reports, one person was killed and several others were injured after hours of sporadic shooting in Bawku, Upper East Region, on Monday, December 27th, 2021.

This comes after a similar incident a few weeks ago that prompted the government to impose a curfew in the area.

According to reports, the shooting occurred as a result of a faction’s demands that the funeral of a chief who died 41 years ago be held in the region.

In light of this, the National Peace Council issued a statement in which it stated that the plea for peace is addressed to all sides of the conflict’s leaders and young.

According to the Council, it has been working with governmental partners and civil society organizations to maintain the discussion and other peaceful ways with the parties.

“The National Peace Council desires to appeal on both sides of the dispute to halt firing and seek nonviolent solutions to their complaints,” Rev. Ernest Adu Gyamfi, Chairman of the NPC, said in a statement obtained by Starrfm.com.gh.
