Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, the Member of Parliament for Wa Central has condemned lapses in the security system in Wa, saying they are partly the reasons for the killings in the area in the past few months.
He pointed at weak intelligence gathering, which he said often gave perpetrators the upper hand in carrying out nefarious activities, in the area.
He made these comments in the wake of recent killings of private security officers and the discovery of their dead bodies in Wa.
Dr. Rashid Pelpuo said the lapses in the system must be addressed immediately to effectively curb the menace. He said that whiles he suspects criminals are quietly mapping out their strategies to carry out their nefarious acts, the security officers are on the road blowing sirens, which he thinks even alerts the criminals of their presence.
Mr. Pelpuo thinks that quiet intelligence gathering is an important part of the security apparatus. He said the strategies employed by criminals call for more proactive ways than the ordinary appearance of policemen on the street. He added that there must be more intelligence deep enough to overcome what criminals are doing.
