The government of Ghana has signed an agreement with telecommunications company AirtelTigo for the transfer of ownership to the state. The transfer comes after the company in June 2020 announced its decision to exit the Ghanaian market.
The government will operate this national asset in the best interest of the nation, the company, telecommunications industry, and ensure the protection of the interests of all employees, customers, contractors, suppliers, stakeholders.
Ghana is determined to make Ghana the digital hub of the subregion and this acquisition is a step in the right direction, the government says. The agreement concludes the extensive negotiations between the parties to ensure a seamless transition and continued operation of AirtleTigo thereafter.
The Government of Ghana and the parent companies have concluded negotiations and signed a transfer agreement to transfer the shares of the company to the Ghana Government following the announcement of the firm’s departure from the country last year. This agreement transfers all customers, assets, and agreed liabilities to the Government ofGhana.
